Hi Silver Surfers,

What a pleasant surprise last night when I was awaken by the (Ah) gentle sound of pouring rain.

My garden is very thankful.

ERROR MESSAGES AND PROBLEMS WITH CRASHES

You can find an answer a particular problem by going to www.google.com

You then  type in the error message or the problem you have with your computer.  You should find many possible solutions as you will discover there are many people with the same problem as you.

Of course one way to avoid crashes is to clean up your computer on a regular basis by running such things as a Scan Disk and  Defragging.

MS Word: Using a Spreadsheet Within a Document

Sometimes you may need to add a Excel spread sheet in a document you are preparing.

Fortunately, the ability to do just that is in Word. It's just a matter of knowing where to find it.

Click  the Insert tab on the Ribbon, then click on the Table button.

See it at the bottom?

It  says "Excel Spreadsheet"

Choose it and you'll see this inserted into your document at the current location of the cursor.

Instantly, you have everything right here inside of Word that you need to get the data presentation you want.

The Ribbon went into to the Excel Ribbon, you now have all the tools you need to develop a spread sheet within the word document.

When you're done and ready to return to Word, simply click outside of the spreadsheet.

Whatever you had displayed when you clicked out of the spreadsheet is what you'll see, so be sure to re-size and have Excel object showing exactly the information you need to display.

Need to edit the spreadsheet?

No problem. Double-click on the spreadsheet and it will open again giving you full access to edit as though you were using Excel instead of Word.

The data power of Excel is available to you without ever leaving Word.

 YouTube

Depending on your internet speed you may have trouble receiving certain YouTube videos.

When you click on the link the window opens and sometimes the video stops and starts. This happens when the Play Bar catches up with the Loading bar.

If you have this problem try pausing the video and wait until the grey bar has completely loaded, then click the play button again. You should now be able to view the Video in its entirety.

If you want to view the video in full screen mode click on the little square box on the right.

To return to the YouTube screen Click on Esc key on your keyboard.

There is a great program called Free uTube downloader.

You can have a look at it here:  https://youtubedownloader.com/

I use it all the time. It down loads the video to a special folder in Videos called

WHAT TO DO WITH A EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

First off, the better way to go is to leave your programs on the C drive and move documents, pictures, and music files over to the new drive. These files can take up a lot of space, especially WAV, MP3, and JPGs. This also protects your data files in case something happens to the operating system or your C drive.

As for HOW to move music files and such, just drag and drop from one drive to the other.

(Following on from the talk on Friday in regards to Backing up your Computer I have just received the following tip from Cynthia. ~Annette)

The best free backup software

Today I'm going to clue you in on a well-regarded program that happens to be free. As they say, you can't beat the price.
AOMEI Backupper Standard 4.0.6 is available by clicking here.
When you arrive at the landing page, you have the option of downloading the Freeware or upgrading to the Pro version. For most home users, the Pro really isn't necessary.

Depending on your browser, you may be given a choice to run or save. (click run if you do.) Or it may download directly to your download file, where you can click to run and begin the installation. Follow the instructions of the installation wizard. On my PC, it took less than a minute to install.

So what can this free version do?
Easily backup system to make a copy of all contents in system drive, including Windows operating system, applications and custom settings without interrupting your work. As you can see from the screenshots, the interface is clean, simple, and easy to navigate.

Backup entire hard disk (HDD), SSD or specified partitions to create an image file. Fully create a disk image to backup entire hard disk. Supports backup to internal disks, external hard drives, USB flash drives and other storage devices that can be recognized by Windows.
Rapidly backup files to an external hard drive, such as office files, photos, videos, documents, games, and programs.  It also supports backup multiple files on network or NAS.
Set and forget with automatic backup, incremental/differential backups to save time and storage.

Clone a smaller HDD to a larger HDD for disk upgrade, or clone HDD to SSD for better performance.
It also features real-time file sync that monitors files for changes and synchronizes new added, modified or deleted files from source to target path as soon as the change has occurred.
As you can see, it does a whole lot.
If this backup business is slightly confusing to you, you'll appreciate the extensive tutorial section found by
clicking here. It offers instructions for doing various tasks in Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. The instructions are detailed and feature lots of screenshots of what's happening to make it easy

The following Tip from Cynthia is especially for W10 users ~ Annette

Microsoft give up its Groove, partners with Spotify
Microsoft is admitting it can't play with the big boys in the digital music realm and is retiring Groove Music (formerly Xbox music) to partner with streaming giant Spotify.
The Groove music app will continue to work and play the music you've downloaded, but after the end of the year, it will no longer be able to stream, purchase, or download music.

Those who paid for the Premium Groove Music pass will be able to move their playlists and collections directly to Spotify starting on October 9, and may also qualify for a 60-day trial of Spotify's Premium service.
If you've purchased any music from Microsoft, you'll need to download it before the end of the year. Here's how.
Open the Groove Music App.

Go to My Music and select Filter.

Choose Purchased from the drop-down menu.

Right-click on a song or album and choose Download.

If you've paid for the Groove Music Pass, you can use your subscription until December 31. After that, Microsoft will give you a prorated refund or a Microsoft gift card. If you choose the gift card option, you'll receive 120% of what you are owned. Subscriptions will not automatically transfer to Spotify.
While Microsoft says it will continue to support Groove Music as a player for your purchased music, it's unclear if they'll work on developing another default music player for Windows 10, or in this day of streaming services, give up on the idea..

Well folks that's it for another week.

Until next time this is your Secretary signing off
