Hi Silver Surfers,

I hope no one lost their computer or modems during the horrific storm on Thursday night.

Luckily I had tuned everything off early in the storm however we did lose the telephone during the storm that came up about 3am.

This is a handy website for phone numbers.   You can even enter a street name and it will list the names of people in that  street.

Another is https://www.reverseaustralia.com/

You can type in the phone number and it will show the name associated with that number

http://www.zamzar.com/

Too Many Tool Bars in Internet Explorer

Maybe you have a Google Tool Bar or maybe Yahoo.  If you want access to these tool bars but don't want them cluttering up you Web page view

Go to View/Toolbars and uncheck the toolbar(s) you don't want displayed.

To turn it on again, just go back in and re-check it.

CHANGING THE LOOK OF OFFICE 2010

Did you know that you can change the background colour in Office 2010?

  1. Open Word  program and click on the Office button and then click the Word Options  button

Office 2007

       Office 2010

  1. In the resulting window click the down arrow beside Colour. You will see that there are three colour schemes to choose from – Blue, Grey or Black.

  1. Try each one and make your choice.

Now you are in control with the colour of your choice that is easiest on your eyes.

Whatever choice you make will apply to all Office 2010 programs.

Free Outlook Express Alternative
A lot of you tell me how much you miss the simple interface of the old Outlook Express email client. Here's a free download that mimics the looks and features of Outlook Express.  It's called OE Classic.
This program works with all versions of Windows including Windows 10. It comes in both a free and Pro version. The pro version costs $24.95.(USA)
Here's a look at the inbox.

And here's what the address book looks like. Familiar, huh?

Those of you who loved Outlook Express stationery will be glad to know that not only does it offer stationery, but you can import your old Outlook Express stationery.
Some things about this program are a step above Outlook Express. It lets you make complex rules for messages and there's no limit to your folder size. It's a great replacement for either Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail.

Beautiful wallpaper, free from Bing
Who doesn't love beautiful desktop wallpaper to look at? Especially if you know it's from a legitimate source that won't load up your PC with viruses.  One of my favourite places to find wallpaper is over at Bing.com.  Yep, that's right; head over to the homepage for the Microsoft search engine.

No matter the day, the page will feature a beautiful photograph. Sometimes it's a natural wonder or a gorgeous animal. Other times, a beautiful shot of a city.  Scroll down and you'll learn about the image. You can even take a quiz.

Click the download arrow and you can download the picture to use as wallpaper. It will head straight to your downloads folder.

Scroll down a bit more and you can look at the beautiful images from previous days.

To download previous images, you'll need to use the arrow at the far right of the main image at the top. I've circled it in red, below.

Arrow back to a previous day.

Then scroll down and choose the download arrow.

You can download to your Downloads folder or choose save-as to rename and pick a favorite location.

Right-click the image to set as your wallpaper. Or drop it into a folder that you use for a desktop slideshow.

The following  tips is from Cloudeight Info and is used by permission

(I hope this item I just received from Cloudeight helps W10 user. I know when an update went through on Thursday I needed to reset all my default programs ~ Annette)

Erik updated his Windows 10 PC to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and now Windows Media Player doesn't work

Dear friends... I installed Fall Creators Edition for Windows 10, I cannot work any more with Windows media Player. I work now with VLC media Player ...is also good ...but I wanted if possible to have back WMP.
Thank you very much for all. Erik (from France)

Our answer
Hi Erik. Our computers are fine after the Fall Creators Update - Windows Media Player is working just fine. Perhaps your WMP got corrupted? Try this:

1. Open Windows Settings from start menu, or  with the keyboard shortcut Windows + i ,
2. Open Apps -> Apps & features, and click on "Manage optional features"
3. Windows shows a list of all installed optional features. Scroll down and find Windows Media Player. Uninstall it, then Reboot.
4. After you have restarted, go back to Settings > Apps & features > Manage optional features.
5. Select the "Add a feature" option near the top of the page.
6. Reboot your computer.

You should find "Windows Media Player" listed near the bottom of the list. Click it and choose install button. It should take only a minute to install.

Let us know if this fixes your problem, Erik.

Erik wrote back: This morning I did  what you asked me and this time it works perfect. Thank you very very much. I wish you and TC a nice week. Greeetings from France.  Erik

Well folks that's it for another week.

Until next time this is your Secretary signing off
