Things to Do if Your Internet Connection is Down.
I have a Thompson TG782T . I know it sets up a new IP address each time I turn the modem on. A few weeks ago I could receive emails but not send them. I kept getting a message "connection refused" etc. I contacted Bigpond Help, it was while I was talking to Technical Help I realised what may have happen. We turned the modem and computer off then back on and bingo away went the emails.
I do not know if this applies to all Internet Providers but I know all Telstra/Bigpond modems use what is called Dynamic I.P address system which allocates a new I.P address every time it is turned on. Telstra have told me it is for safety reasons so your emails can not be tracked by hackers. So, if you have a Telstra Modem remember to turn it off at night with your computer. When you turn it on next day you will have a new I.P address. If you get a message "connection refused etc" when trying to send an email:
You should now have a new I.P address and your emails should go. ~Annette
This following tip applies especially to me, I always click Apply and then OK – that's because I am a creature of habit and it's hard to break old habits.
When should you hit Apply and OK?
Hitting OK will apply the changes that you want made, so you don't need to hit "Apply" first. The following tips are from Cyn's Tech Tips and are used by permission Bring back a missing Start Menu in Windows 10 If your start menu has gone missing in Windows 10, it may be because your user account settings are corrupted. Other symptoms of this issue would be problems accessing the Windows Store. Let's take a look at how to fix it. Normally the best way to find Settings is to type it in the search box and click on the results or select it from the start menu. Or you can right-click on your desktop and select Display Settings. Once you are in Settings, just choose Home at the top left. Once you're in Settings, choose Accounts. Choose Family & other users. Select Add a family member. Pick Add an adult. You can use an alternate e-mail address for this now instead of your Microsoft account. Windows will walk you through the setup, just make sure you don't restrict the account. Once the account is finished, just log on to your PC and see if you can access the Start Menu. Play nearly anything with VLC Media Player You'll be asked if you'd like to make a donation, but it's voluntary. After you use it and see how great it is, go back and give them a little. They certainly deserve it for this program. The following tips is from Cloudeight Info and is used by permission Peek at Your Desktop in W10 Did you know if you click the very far right edge (to the right of the clock) you will go to your desktop? Indeed you will. Now how would you like to peek at your desktop just by hovering over the far right edge of your taskbar? Well, it's simple to do. For Windows 10 Creators Update (and newer) If you're using Windows 10 Creators Update [version 1703] or newer, right-click an empty space on your taskbar and choose "Taskbar settings". Under "Use Peek to preview the desktop when you move your mouse to the Show desktop button at very right edge of the taskbar', turn the switch to "On". Once you do, you can peek at the desktop without actually going to the desktop. If you want to go to the desktop, you can click the Show desktop button at the very far right edge of your taskbar. Hint: You can get back to the desktop by pressing the Windows key and tapping the D key too. Well folks that's it for another week. Until next time this is your Secretary signing off Annette Australian Seniors Computer Club Assoc : "ASCCA is the national peak body for seniors and technology". | In This Issue · Club News · Things to do If your Internet connection is down · Internet Protocol (IP address) · Apply v OK · Bring back Start menu in W10 · Play anything with VLC video Player · Peek at your desktop in W10
