Problems with emails sent from Phones, iPads and Tablets.

clip_image018

Of late I have received many emails sent via new gadgets. Most actually have the message in the Subject line. If it is a long message I am unable to read it all.

As example I sent the club an email from my Tablet and put the message in the Subject line

clip_image020

As you can see you cannot read the whole message as it is the Subject line. You need  to open the email and even then if it is a long message you will not be able to read it. When I opened the club email the only thing in the message area was "Send from Samsung Tablet"

clip_image022

Below is the email option on an Android. You have the To: line where you insert the email address.  You then tap down to the Subject  line and type your subject,

Next you tap down into the next area and type your message.  When the recipient receives your email it will be just like any other email.

clip_image026DOCUMENT INFORMATION FROM YOUR DESKTOP

Its amazing how much information you can get from items on your desktop. It works in W7 & W10

  1. Click on an item on your desk top to highlight

clip_image027

  1. Now point to the item with your mouse and all the document information is revealed

clip_image029

  1. Please note : While that item is highlighted you can point  to anything on the desk to get information

clip_image031

It also works in Document folders etc.

clip_image033How to spot a fake Flash update

I got targeted with a fake update for Adobe Flash this morning, just an hour or so after I did a real update from Adobe. Here's what a genuine Flash update looks like.
clip_image035
Now, let's check out a faker!
clip_image037
If you look closely at this you'll see it's not actually from Adobe. It says it's from Open Software Updater.
clip_image039
This is program promises to help keep your programs updated, but that's nothing that your PC can't already do with Windows updates.

Programs like this often come with unwanted toolbars and pop-up ads. And I'm just plain suspicious of any program that tries to reel you in by pretending to be something that it is not.

When A Loved One Dies, What Do You Do With Their Facebook Page?
clip_image041
This is a touchy subject, but an important one. What happens to someone's Facebook Account when he or she passes away?  Relatives can request to have the account deleted, but often families don't want to do that. They would like to keep the photos and posts of the dearly departed and leave a space for friends to leave their thoughts, but it can be very jarring to see a birthday gift suggestions for a deceased friend.

Fortunately, Facebook does offer a memorialization option for accounts.

A memorialized account is different from a regular profile in several ways. No one can log into a memorialized account and no new friend requests can be accepted.

The account keeps the deceased's previous privacy settings. So if he or she permitted friends to post on the timeline, friends and family can still share memories there. Plus they can also send private messages, if they wish.

Content shared by the deceased remains on Facebook and friends can still see it.  Photos, status updates, links, videos etc... are still visible.

However, friends won't receive special occasion reminders and the deceased won't pop up under suggestions for People You May Know.

To request that an account be memorialized,
follow this link and fill out the form.  It's a simple form that requests basic information.

clip_image043

Family members, friends, co-workers or classmates can request the change. To prevent fraud or pranks in terrible taste, Facebook will request a link to an obituary or news article.
clip_image045
If immediate family members prefer, they can request the removal of the deceased's account by
following this link. For that, you'll need a birth and death certificate and proof that you are a representative of the deceased or their estate.

If you'd like to create a page in memory of someone who has already passed away, you would go to the Create a page section and create a page in memory of that person.
And I think it's a good time to remind people that it's a good idea to make sure that passwords to your social media accounts, blogs, e-mail and other online accounts are important. It's not a bad idea to make sure you keep that information stored with your will and other important papers in the event you die or become incapacitated.

clip_image047Is Facebook Draining Your iPhone?

A lot of iPhone users have been saying that their phones are losing battery power way too fast. Tests have shown that Facebook is one of the prime culprits. The app's location service is always on and running in the background and sucking up battery life.

Other apps that use location services like Maps and Foursquare have the same issue. You can usually turn off location services within an app by toggling the location services switch to Off. Or you can disable them entirely by going to Settings>Privacy>Location Services.

clip_image049

Also any app that can make calls such as Skype or Viber can constantly be checking for incoming calls.

Apple also suggests that you enable WiFi on your phone. WiFi uses less power than your data plan. Turning on Auto-Brightness can extend the time between recharges as well.

clip_image051

You can also set you phone to fetch mail less often by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly. Turning off notifications for new data can go a long way to preserving battery life as well.

Now, if you happen to be in an area with poor cell reception, your phone can wear itself out looking for a signal. You might want to consider switching airplane mode if you're deep in a basement or up in the hills or anywhere else your bars are likely to drop to none.

Another important factor is temperature. If your phone is in a cold car where temperature falls below freezing that could severely affect battery life. Same goes for heat, your phone does not work well when it's over 95 degrees. Apple advises you to keep your phone as close to 72 degrees as possible.
